The Listicle Strawman

Listened to a couple of IM podcasters going hard against “AI content” today. Good conversation otherwise. But the AI part bugged me.

Every example they reached for was the same one. Prompt in, article out, nobody home. That’s the only version of AI writing they seem to picture.

Nobody’s defending that version. I’m not. Doesn’t mean it’s the only version that exists.

What I actually do most days is closer to a working conversation. Push back and forth. Reject drafts. Argue about a word choice. Feed in things that actually happened to me that no model would ever produce on its own. The judgment stays mine the whole way through.

Define “AI content” as the lazy version, argue against that, and you never have to touch the harder question. Where’s the real line between “AI wrote this” and “AI was in the room while I wrote this.” That’s the question worth sitting with. Not one I’ve fully answered myself yet.

Easier to point at the strawman and get applause.
